Agricultural income calculation varies by state. Here's what you need to know:
General Rule: Include total income from farming, crop sales, dairy, and agricultural activities
Karnataka Exception: Only income above โน5 lakh from land is counted
Tamil Nadu: All agricultural income is counted
If uncertain: Include total agricultural income in your family income figure
Handling contractual positions:
Permanent Government Job: Select appropriate Group/Class rank
Contractual/Temporary: Generally treated as non-government employment for NCL purposes
Daily wage workers in govt: Not counted as government employees
When in doubt: Mention "Private Sector" and include income in total
Special family situations:
Biological Parents Only: Enter only biological or adoptive parents' details
Stepparents: If they legally adopted you, include their details; otherwise, use biological parent info
Single Parent: Enter one parent's details; leave other as "Unemployed/Passed Away"
Guardians: If living with uncle/aunt/grandparents, still enter biological parents' information
Separated/Divorced: Both parents' income counts even if they don't live together

Primary Job: Select the main occupation in the wizard
Side Income: Add all side income (rental, business, freelance) to total annual income
Example: Father is Group C officer (โน4L salary) + owns rental property (โน2L) = Total โน6L
Priority: Government job status determines Creamy Layer criteria, but total income must be within โน8L

About the OBC Non Creamy Layer (NCL) Eligibility Rules
The OBC reservation policy is governed by guidelines issued by the Department of Personnel and Training (DoPT), Government of India. The fundamental objective of the Creamy Layer concept is to ensure that reservation benefits reach those within Other Backward Classes who are genuinely underprivileged.
1. Non-Salary Income Ceiling (โน8 Lakh Limit)
Under existing Central Government norms, an OBC candidate whose parents' gross annual non-salary income from all business, profession, and property sources exceeds โน8 lakh for three consecutive years falls under the Creamy Layer.
Important Rule: DoPT clarification OM No. 36033/5/2004 clearly specifies that income from salaries and income from agricultural land are not added together for the โน8 lakh income criterion.
2. Parental Employment & Government Ranks
Children of government servants are classified as Creamy Layer if:
Either parent was directly recruited as a Group A / Class I officer.
Both parents are Group B / Class II officers.
A parent was promoted to Group A before reaching age 40.
A parent holds/held a Constitutional post (e.g. President, Governor, High Court Judge, UPSC Member).
In Armed Forces: Either parent holds a rank above Lieutenant Colonel (Army), Commander (Navy), or Wing Commander (Air Force).
3. Required Documents for OBC NCL Certificate
Parental Income Certificate (for the preceding three financial years)
Central / State Caste Certificate of parents or applicant
Aadhaar Card and Residence / Domicile Certificate
Self-declaration affidavit affirming Non-Creamy Layer status
Service book / salary slip copy if parent is in government employment
